Lag Ba’omer, a Joyous Holiday

Lag Ba’omer is a joyous holiday marking the end of a mourning period – the omer which is counted from Pesach until Shavuot – and marks the end of a plague that killed 24,000 students of Rabbi Akiva because they had ‘sinat chinam – all because of baseless hatred for one another. This plague wiped out an entire generation of torah scholars.

Throughout history HaShem has punished the Jewish people when there was baseless hatred and division among us. Unity is vital for the survival of our people who have enough threats and enemies that we shouldn’t be divided or fighting among each other. Unity is always at the forefront of what Herut promotes because when we are a united people, we are a stronger, more secure people.
